Britain Is The Place To Be For Expanding Businesses, But Why?
If you’re a budding businessperson, there are few better places in which to grow your enterprise than the UK.
You don’t have to take our word for it – there are plenty of studies to back up such claims.
Best in Europe
Earlier this month, BT published research that showed the UK is the most desirable location for business expansion in Europe. It’s also the second best place in the world, only surpassed by the US.
As surveys go, this one certainly didn’t lack in authority. The company asked 1,150 business decision makers in 13 regions across the planet where they felt would be the best place to grow their organisation. 30 per cent said the UK, while China (29 per cent), Hong Kong (27 per cent) and Germany (26 per cent) were also favourable destinations.
It’s not just small enterprises that are performing well in the UK. A separate study conducted by GE Capital showed that mid-sized businesses based in Britain are now growing at a faster rate than their counterparts in Germany, France and Italy.
The average British mid-market firm is predicted to increase its sales by 6.1 per cent in the next 12 months, which is substantially higher than Germany (4.8 per cent), Italy (3.8 per cent) and France (3.4 per cent). Tellingly, around 326,000 jobs will be created by mid-sized UK-based companies over the same period, which is more than double the amount set to be opened up by their German rivals.
John Cridland, Director-General of the Confederation of British Industry, believes the outlook is bright for our corporations.
“As the economic recovery continues to build momentum, UK mid-market firms are playing a key role in creating new jobs and markets, as well as competing on the international stage,” he remarked.
The pitfalls of growing too fast
While it’s great that Britain has such a solid reputation in the corporate world, we only have to cast our minds back a couple of years to remember that things can go badly wrong very quickly.
Ambitious companies can easily bite off more than they can chew, and it is important that entrepreneurs learn to grow at a manageable, sustainable pace. At alldayPA, we work with a plethora of up-and-coming businesses that have successfully negotiated the tough recessionary years, and are now in a position to expand.
A company is only as good as its customer service. If you constantly let your customers down – whether that is through providing substandard products and services, or failing to deal with their queries in a prompt manner – they will soon move elsewhere, and your firm will garner a poor reputation for customer service. Such damage can be difficult to put right.
It’s no surprise, therefore, that more and more entrepreneurs are outsourcing some or all of their customer services department. By joining forces with a professional call handling specialist, you can guarantee that your ever-increasing customer base is being looked after properly, allowing your enterprise to grow far more smoothly.
